Five types of people to spot in the crowd

Where do you fall? Alvin R. Cabral gives you a little guide on it

Let’s face it... in one way or another, you’re looking forward to Gitex Shopper every year. Make that two times every year, as a matter of fact. The region’s best venue to land deals on electronics opened its doors on Saturday. And depending on where you’re standing, you may be one of the five types of Gitex Shopper visitors we’ve figured out.

1. Buying at all costs. You know you’re going to consummate your need for tech when you’ve (a) marked Gitex Shopper in your calendar, (b) done your homework and researched every corner of the Web and/or (c) made sure you’re the first in queue before the event opens, especially on the first day.

Well, congratulations; you’re a certified Gitex Shopper freak.

Further breaking that down, you’re the type that simply won’t take “no” for an answer when grabbing the latest devices.

And to rub it in on others further, don’t forget: make sure you do splash out your new gizmos on your social media account. Bragging rights are yours.

2. What’s all the fuss about? So Gitex Shopper is here and it seems everyone is looking forward to wade through the crush at the event. Meeeh. These are the types who are happy with what they’ve got and probably could buy anything at any given time.

3. The curious ones. Some events just definitely ramp up the curiosity meter. And for those who wouldn’t mind spending on the entrance fee, this is where you fall.

To be fair, Gitex Shopper is indeed an interesting affair; brands and retailers will go all out with the craziest offers they could come up with.

And by that, we don’t mean the discounts, freebies or left-and-right raffles; remember those bundles that included cars in recent memory? These, among others, are what makes the event really worth experiencing first-hand.

4. I’m feeling lucky! Further to the latter part of No.3, let’s put it this way: everyone loves prizes. So, objectively, Gitex Shopper is the place for you.

Raffles are a staple at the event, and there are some who’d go there — maybe even every day — to get a shot at winning something. Never mind if you spend a few hundred dirhams every now and then — that could be enough to net you a really nice prize.

5. The converts. This starts out at No.2, belts out to No.3 and, depending on how much you were convinced, could end up at No.1, and possibly advance to No.4.

But usually, these are the types that were probably wowed by what’s on offer, were egged on by their friends or were just envious of everyone else happily marching out of the Dubai World Trade Centre flaunting their new gadgets that they decided they wouldn’t be allowed to be left in the tech dust. So, have you figured out which category you belong? Happy shopping, everyone.
