RTA increases Metro trips to meet morning demand

DUBAI — Beginning today, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will increase the number of Metro trips on the Red and Green lines in response to the growing demand for services from the public, especially the early morning riders.

“To address the early morning passengers, three additional short trips would operate each day from Saturday to Thursday and five additional trips on Friday on the Red Line,” Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, announced on Saturday.

“In total, 276 new trips are added on weekly basis — 154 on Red Line and 122 on Green Line. The new winter timetable will be operational on Sunday,” he added.

From Sundays to Thursdays, two trips will operate towards Rashidiya and one trip will operate towards UAE Exchange station.

The first trip will start at 6.07am from Dubai Internet City (DIC) station and will reach Rashidiya at 6.55am. The second trip will depart from Al Jafiliya station at 6.27am and arrive at Al Rashidiya station at 6.50am. The third additional trip on the Red Line is at 6.02am from Burjuman station to reach UAE Exchange station at 6.52am.

On Fridays, five trips will be added on the Red Line; of which three will be Rashidiya-bound and two UAE Exchange-bound.

The first trip, on the Red Line, will start at 10.14am from DIC station to reach Al Rashidiya at 11.02am. Second trip at 10.23am from Business Bay will reach Al Rashidiya at 10.56am while the third trip will be at 10.31am from Burjuman to reach Al Rashidiya at 10.51am.

Fourth trip, starting from Deira City Centre at 10.05am will arrive at UAE Exchange station at 11.02am while the trip starting at 10.06am from Al Jafiliya will reach UAE Exchange at 10.56am.

“Two short trips are already operating from Burjuman station at 10.19am and 10.25am, reaching Rashidiya station at 10.39am and 10.45am, respectively. Hence, in total, seven short trips will operate on Friday early morning,” Younes said.

On Saturdays, three additional trips would operate on the Red Line. The first one will start at 6.03am from DIC station and will reach Al Rashidiya at 6.51am. Second trip at 6.21am from Al Jafiliya will reach Al Rashidiya at 6.44am while the third additional trip will leave Burjuman station at 6.02am and reach UAE Exchange station at 6.52am.
