Laser liposuction: A new cosmetic procedure to remove body fats

Laser lipo is a new cosmetic procedure to remove body fat. The laser liposuction technique uses lasers to break up fat before its removal from the body reducing the need for harsh suction.

There are two types of laser liposuction, internal and external. External liposuction uses a laser (in the form of a pen or pad) outside the patient’s body before the surgery begins.

Internal liposuction uses a laser attached to the suction device or the end of a fibre-optic probe which is inserted into the area to be treated.

Laser liposuction is a variation on traditional liposuction that uses low-wave laser energy to liquefy fat before it’s removed through a thin tube called a cannula. This technique makes the fat easier to remove, resulting in a less aggressive procedure, which may lead to faster recovery times.

The liquefied fat is absorbed and naturally eliminated by the body. The newer form of liposuction also has the potential to remove more fat than traditional liposuction and has less blood loss because the laser dries blood vessels. How is the laser surgery done? Two punctures are made for each zone through which the fibre laser is inserted, which carries the melting of the fat evenly, stimulates production of collagen and also performs toning of existing collagen for skin in the area treated.

This method is superior to conventional methods or other methods, given the beneficial action of the laser over the adjacent tissues, reducing side effects, such as pain or inflammation and increasing safety from an aesthetic and medical perspective.

Another benefit of laser liposuction is toning of the skin’s surface which significantly reduces the effect of ‘loose skin’ that can occur in the case of a conventional intervention. Recovery time in hospital is one night only.

After surgery, small bandages are applied on each puncture area and a compressive corset for the particular area to be held at least 30 days. Starting the day after surgery, the patient can resume normal activity and is advised to resume any physical activity and sport, except swimming.

This procedure is not recommended for persons who present a high degree of obesity, which require further surgery, people with skin diseases in the area operated, or people with serious blood clotting problem.
