Truck driver charged with murder bid over parking

- Marie Nammour

dubai — A truck driver allegedly tried to kill another by stabbing him five times following a brawl over a parking spot, a court heard on Sunday.

The 43-year-old Indian man was reported to be drunk at the time of the incident which took place on April 11 in Ras Al Khor.

He denied an attempted murder charge in the court, claiming he did not mean to kill the other man.

The Court of First Instance was told the incident happened at 7.30pm after the victim blamed the other driver for parking his truck in the spot he used to park in a sandy area. “I parked my truck in another spot and went for lunch. About two hours later, I wanted to sleep when that driver came, hiding something behind his back,” the 43-year-old Indian victim told the prosecutor. The victim said the defendant smelled of alcohol.

He brandished a knife and stabbed me in the abdomen five times,” he said during the investigation. The accused kept saying : ‘You are dying, you are dying’.

The victim knew that the defendant wanted to kill him. He screamed until a Pakistani man came to his help and called the police.

Both men’s DNA traces were found on the knife. The defendant admitted during interrogation that he stabbed the victim with a knife he had kept in a trailer of his truck.

The trial has been adjourned to November 13.
