Unlucky 7? Now, it’s iPhone’s turn to allegedly catch fire

dubai — Apple and Samsung do their best burn each other, but this is one thing Tim Cook and Co would rather do without.

Multiple news outlets have reported that an Australian man claims that his iPhone 7 bursted into flames, turning the interior of his car into pretty much a barbecue pit.

The owner of the iPhone 7 that allegedly exploded, surfing instructor Mat Jones, said he left the device wrapped in some clothes inside his car. As he was returning from a surfing lesson, he saw his car’s windows blacked out in smoke.

Jalopnik adds that Apple is aware of the claim is investigating it, but — as always — would not comment further.

Jones further added that he hasn’t done anything funny with his brand-new iPhone 7, which he says he bought just over a week ago. He says he hasn’t dropped it, and has been using the charging cables that came along with it.

But that’s not all. GizmoChina also reported that a Chinese man also had an explosive start with his iPhone 7 experience.

The man claims that the device exploded while he was recording a video, scarring his face with glass that flew out like shrapnel. There’s a video about it on Weibo (in Chinese), but you’ll have to sign up to be able to view it.

The first alleged iPhone 7 explosion was put into light by a Reddit user named “kroopthesnoop”, but the fireworks happened not while it was in his possession, but while it was on its way to him.

According to the Reddit thread, Apple’s Texas offices were contacted and a replacement phone had been arranged and delivered.
