Twitter abuzz with Indian triumph
new delhi — Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar along with many sporting personalities and Bollywood celebrities wished the Indian Kabaddi team for winning the World Cup for the third consecutive time.
India fought off a tough challenge from Iran to win the World Cup at the TransStadia Arena in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
They had earlier clinched the 2004 and 2007 editions of the Kabaddi World Cup. In perhaps the most exciting match of this World Cup, the Indians overturned a firsthalf deficit with a superb secondhalf performance to win 38-29.
“Champions!! Invented the game and never lost the world cup! Such a proud moment for us! Hope it grows even more globally. #INDvIRN,” Tendulkar wrote on the micro-blogging website Twitter handle on Sunday. Sports Minister Vijay Goel expressed his delight at the achievement. “And our tigers have done it. Victors. Congratulations @IamAnupK & team! #OneBigBlue,” Goel said.
India batsman Suresh Raina wrote: “Congratulations #IndianKabaddiTeam for wonderful display of skills & winning eight World title.”
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said, : India invented Kabaddi & r World Champs for 8th time.Elsewhere some country invented Cricket & r yet only good in correcting typos. #INDvIRN”
Former India batsman VVS Laxman said: “Congratulations Indian Kabaddi team for winning the #kabaddiworldcup2016 Gr8 team effort.. You made us proud. Keep it up.” Megastar Amitabh Bachchan said it’s “time for celebration and cheer”. —
