LOOKING FOR HEALTHY, KIDS’ MENUS? A ROUND-UP

- Michael Gomes

Eating out with kids can get tricky, especially when the choices on offer include potato wafers, processed burgers and chocolate ice creams. But a little homework on the food choices available in your city can ensure your kids eat well and enjoy their food too. We help you get started.

Work of art

Holiday Inn, Abu Dhabi (026574888) has partnered with international food artist Samantha Lee to encourage family-friendly, fun dining. Lee transforms five dishes from a nutritionally balanced kids menu into child-friendly works of art. Dishes include Tenderloin Burger, Lamb Skewers, Spaghetti Bolognese, Rice Paper Rolls and Lentil Curry. For dessert, there’s Apple Crumble, Fruit Popsicle, and Banana Split made with yoghurt instead of ice cream.

100 per cent natural

Each dish at Baker & Spice, Souk Al Bahar (044252240), is 100 % natural and prepared in-house from scratch, even the ketchup! On the menu: fresh fruit pancakes, omelettes, boiled eggs, homemade bread toast. In addition, they have a salad bar and pasta section too.

Fun unlimited

An outdoor garden serving as a playground, an open-air terrace stocked with books, comfy high chairs, a collection of toys, and boxes full of crayons. No wonder, the kids love spending time at Lime Tree Café & Kitchen, Jumeirah 1 (043256325). The café’s menu boasting muesli, fresh fruits, tarts, smoothies, etc. makes it a perfect choice for parents too.

eat for free

At Giraffe, Yas Mall, Yas Island (02565071), the kids (up to 12) get to eat for free on a coming weekend (25-27Nov)! On the menu: oats, muesli, nut bowls, brekkie burritos, etc. Whilst here, they can channel their inner F1 driver on the interactive racetrack or indulge in face painting, and a host of other fun activities.

Play zone

An indoor play area, the staff at Caboodle Café, City Walk (04 3444570), is trained to keep your kids entertained. The tempting menu features fresh juices, milkshakes, waffles and more.
