Confessions of a Bollywood noob

- Angel Tesorero

dubai — My perception of Bollywood is that it’s gaudy, garish, loud and very dramatic. So when Bollywood Parks Dubai officially opened its doors on Thursday night and I was one of the first visitors, I must say, my opinion completely changed. The magic of Bollywood rubbed into me and I was not disappointed... in a good way.

The entertaining live show brought to life the action, music, dance and drama of Bollywood and it provided a larger-than-life experience for a noob like me.

From the opening dance number, an excerpt from the musical Jaan-eJigar, I started stomping my feet and felt the rhythm of Bollywood.

I told my (Indian) colleague: “Today I’m an Indian for a day.” ‘Zindagi na Milegi Dobara’ (“you only live once”) and when in Dubai, go with the flow, enjoy the moment and experience the thrilling rides. My first stop was Lagaan, which I’m familiar with because it was shown in the Philippines. The Rustic Ravine ride was a roller-coaster ride full of emotions; experiencing how Bhuvan and his underdog team were able to beat the odds and avoid taxation was not just a ride but also a piece of India’s awakening as an independent nation.

Then I tried the sci-fi RA.One Unleashed, a 4D multi-sensory theatre experience that will take you on a virtual thrill ride, recreating the encounter between RA.One – the evil mastermind and G.One – the ‘good-one’ along with Prateek and G2one.

I was, however, disappointed that Don Chase was not yet operational and Krrish: Hero’s Flight hasn’t taken off. So I just watched the live shows. The lyrics I don’t understand, but the tempo and beat were exhilarating. When singers started performing the magic, color, and music will not escape you. — angel@khaleejtimes.com
