dubai — Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has issued a resolution outlining a framework for a compensation system for government employees.

According to the resolution, government entities must monitor employees on the job to reduce risk of occupational injuries and diseases, ensure proper functioning of personal and public safety equipment, as well as analyse industrial accidents and ensure they don’t happen again.

Additionally, work must be suspended in case of risk to employee safety, and occupational safety awareness increased among staff, to be trained on safety procedures. All occupational injuries and diseases must be reported to the Dubai Government Human Resources Department to be registered. Government departments are also mandated to ensure periodic medical checkups in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), maintain records and provide any medical treatment requires.

Employees’ role

Employees are to be responsible for staying away from physical danger during work, maintain equipment safety and tools works, and follow occupational safety and health procedures.

If injured because of work, the employee must notify the relevant department within a week, or the department does not hold any responsibility. The Dubai Finance Department will cover the costs of any medical services required. The employee must accept or bear the entire responsibility for the injury and medical services.

Medical insurance must cover healthcare and medical services and the employee does not bear any financial responsibility. Services covered by insurance include ambulance and emergency services, evacuation services, treatment inside and outside the UAE as required, rehabilitation, prostheses, medicines, transportation and follow ups during the medical treatment. Such medical services must be provided for the patient until his or her condition is stable or until death.
