Short circuit triggers fire in hospital; no casualties
ajman — A fire erupted in a leading hospital located in Al Naimiya area on Wednesday. No casualties reported.
Lt. Nawaf Atteeq, Duty officer of Ajman Civil Defence, said that the fire started on the advertising screen of the Thumbay Hospital due to short circuit. The winds spread the fire creating huge flames and that created panic among people around the area.
He added that the fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading to the building which accommodates patients and managed to control the fire in short time. The site has been handed over to the Ajman Police for more investigation.
The Thumbay Hospital Holding in a statement said: “There has been a very minor incident of fire at the Thumbay Hospital (Ajman, formerly known as GMC Hospital) which was brought under control with the assistance of fire and safety department of the hospital in less than ten minutes on Wednesday, December 28. The statement added that the fire broke out on the “logo of the signboard” and not the “emergency unit” contrary to the earlier reports. It was caused due to shortcircuit on the neon-board logo, owing to heavy humidity and fog.
“We would also like to add that there was no evacuation of the emergency unit conducted, nor any damage was reported to the hospital, its operations, its employees and patients. The company has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its employees, its patients and the hospital is fully operational.”
