Gang of exchange house robbers jailed for 3 years

-

dubai — The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a gang of six East Europeans to three yeas in jail to be followed by deportation for committing a Dh700,00 robbery in a money exchange outlet in Karama last year.

They used toy guns, Taser guns and teargas for the robbery in December last year. They also burnt the car they used for the robbery after fleeing the exchange.

The gang was busted by the Dubai Police in an Operation codenamed ‘Mirage Dream’.

According to the court records, four of the masked gang members stormed into Al Razouqi exchange house in Karama around 4.30pm, carrying Taser guns and some other devices that looked like guns. Before the staff could react, they sprayed teargas on three female employees — two Indians and one Filipina. They frightened the customers and the staff using the toy guns and Tasers.

After collecting the money from the exchange, they fled the place immediately in a car, which was found burnt later in a nearby place. The police said they used a stolen number plate for the car they purchased in Dubai. After analysing the method of the crime, the police realised the robbery was committed by some professionals.

The arrests came after the burnt car was discovered by the police.

The police immediately started monitoring the UAE’s borders to prevent them from escaping. One suspect was arrested while attempting to leave the country. Part of the stolen money was also recovered from the accused.
