Pledging to make the ‘Year of Giving’ drive a big success, Abdullah Alshemeili, a government retiree, told Khaleej Times that it is an honour for him to be an Emirati and to have such philanthropic schemes are launched in his beloved country.

“I am so proud and dignified,” he said. “It is really inspiring to see how our prudent leaders feel the sufferings of the needy and all vulnerable segments of the society.”

The pioneering drive will encourage the private sector to be more giving across the country and worldwide, he added. “Our leaders and Shaikhs spare no effort to meet our needs and ensure our safety, security, stability and prosperity with unending innovative drives.”

Abdullah Al Suri, an Emirati national, said the kind gesture absolutely affirms the fact that the UAE is a country of giving, and the Emirati people are the true children of the late Shaikh Zayed. “We will definitely contribute to this promising programme and make it an astounding success.”

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, executive director of the Dar Al Ber Society, said the society will launch a series of activities and events to mark the ‘Year of Giving’ across the UAE in pursuance of the drive of the President.

“All private institutions and civil society organisations are urged to coordinate with each other to meet the supreme goals of this campaign, reinforce the values and ethics of social responsibility, and make the drive a success,” he said.
