Strong winds wreak havoc across UAE
dubai —Inclement weather conditions wreathed havoc in several areas across the city. A crane reportedly fell from the top of a building on to four cars parked underneath causing them to go up in flames, injuring one person. The incident took place on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road at around 1.30pm, causing a traffic jam. However, the Dubai Civil Defence and the Dubai Police managed to bring the situation back to normal soon. Major Firas Belhasa, director of operation room at the Dubai Civil Defense, said that the firefighters from the Satwa Civil Defense Station rushed to the site and rushed the injured person, who had sustained minor injuries, to a nearby hospital.
To ensure safety during the bad weather conditions, the Global Village remained closed on Friday and will be open to public Saturday onwards from 4pm.
In Ajman, a number of vehicles caught fire when a scaffolding fell on them due to strong winds in the Nuaimiya area. The fire was contained by the Ajman Civil Defense team in a short time and no injuries were reported.
Strong winds also uprooted trees and destroyed signboards in Umm Al Quwain, however, no one was injured. The Umm Al Quwain Traffic and Patrol Police warned drivers and road users to stay alert and drive carefully as strong winds kicked up a dust storm that reduced the visibility on roads.
Huge waves reportedly battered the Palm Jumeirah roadside causing the seawater to flood the roads. A Khaleej Times reader said some motorists were stranded as water flooded some areas of Pal Jumeirah.
