Boat carrying 14 sailors catches fire

dubai — A group of 14 sailors have been rescued after a fire broke out in their wooden boat sailing off Ras Al Khor in Dubai on Sunday morning.

The Dubai Police and the Dubai Civil Defence rescued the sailors and put out the fire in the boat, which was sailing near the Floating Bridge in the city, eight miles away from Ras Al Khor.

The Dubai Police said in a tweet that because of the fire incident, the police closed the area and directed the traffic and advised motorists to use alternativ­e road.

The police also released a video showing the rescue operations, which prevented the fire from spreading to other areas, on its website.

Mahmood Hamad, spokespers­on of the Dubai Civil Defence, said that the rescued sailors were transporte­d to another boat and no one was injured.
