According to Dr TC Satish, specialist dermatologist at Axon Medica Polyclinic in Rashidiya, Dubai: “Sandstorm dust is a prolific source of potential triggers of allergic and non allergic respiratory ailments, like asthma and other diseases. The problems can affect children and adults alike.

“Smokers are more vulnerable. People may be advised to stay indoors and in case they venture out should carry mask or a clean handkerchief. Skin ailments like Atopic dermatitis and airborne contact dermatitis can also be aggravated.”

Dr Jyoti Amal Upadhyay, specialist in Internal Medicine at Aster Hospital, also overserved that weather conditions in Dubai have been pretty unsettled over the last few weeks. She added that this has led to an upsurge of cases of pharyngitis, bronchitis, intractable cough and conjunctivitis. It is advisable to check the weather forecast every morning you step out of the house.

Follow these tips to stay away from sick bed: > Keep yourselves protected with caps, scarves and sunglasses. > Consuming home cooked fresh food is the best option > Avoid excessively cold drinks/ eatables. > Hand washing is important to keep the germs at bay. Most diarrheas happen due to viruses, that are transmitted by touching surfaces like door knobs. Hand rubs do not eradicate these viruses. Hand washing is the only way to do so. > It is of utmost importance to keep our cars in good shape and avoid talking on the mobile. > Drive slowly and well below the speed limit in case of fog/rain.
