Driver arrested after stunt video goes viral

dubai — The General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police arrested a UAE national on Thursday, after a video of him driving recklessly in the City Walk area went viral on social media.

The man in question was initially referred to the Dubai Public Prosecutio­n after the video, showing him performing a stunt known as ‘doughnuts’ in his 4X4 during the rainy weather, was circulated on several popular social media platforms.

It showed shocked bystanders looking on as the man — whose age is unknown — performed the reckless stunts close to other vehicles and people. A later image of the man’s car showed damage to the rear of the vehicle.

The driver is likely to face a large fine and will also have his car confiscate­d, he said.

Brig Al Mazroui urged people to enjoy the good weather but not to indulge in such violations which may lead to fatal accidents. He also called on the public not to circulate videos of reckless drivers on social media and instead apprise the Dubai Police of the same.
