Wasim feels Kings have peaked at the right time

- James Jose

dubai — Karachi Kings spinner Imad Wasim has said that they have probably peaked at the right time and added that the two wins against Lahore Qalandars, which helped them stay in the competition and the big victory against Islamabad United in the play-off, has done wonders to their team spirit.

After a slow start to the tournament, the Karachi Kings put one foot into the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) play-offs with a last-ball win over the Lahore Qalandars.

Then, after making the play-offs, Karachi defended a low total to send defending champions Islam- abad out of the competition.

Karachi get another shot at the final when they take on Peshawar Zalmi in the third qualifying final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday night.

And left-arm spinner Wasim said that they were solely focusing on the match on hand. “Of course,” Wasim said when asked if the team had peaked at the right time.

“This kind of a win (against Islamabad) and the way we won against Lahore really lifted us and it also helped in the team spirit. And when you win a couple of matches like these, the morale of the team goes up,” he said.

We have to win the next game and after we win that, we will think about the final Imad Wasim, Karachi Kings

“We have to win the next game and after we win that, we will think about the final. The next match is a do or die game and we will be focusing on that,” added Wasim.

Talking about the game against Islamabad he said: “We had to take wickets as we just couldn’t restrict them with such a low score on the board and considering what a good team they are. So, the plan was to take wickets and give it our 100 percent and the result will take care of itself.”

Wasim played a massive role in the victory, taking three wickets, including the likes of Islamabad captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Australian Shane Watson. With leg spinner Usama Mir and left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir too picking up three wickets, the Karachi Kings defended a low score.

A brilliant catch by captain and wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara, who leapt in the air, to see the back of opener Dwayne Smith, also lifted the side. “In such a game, if you take a brilliant catch, it lifts the team and Sangakkara’s catch was outstanding.”
