Pak community gears up for 70th anniversay
dubai — The Pakistani community will hold 14 days of celebrations to mark the upcoming 70th anniversary of Pakistan’s creation on March 23.
The celebrations will start from March 10 and will culminate on March 24 with a variety of programmes that are being held across the emirates, announced the new Consul-General of Pakistan to the UAE Syed Javed Hassan during a Press briefing held on Sunday.
“We will celebrate this occasion with 14 events to be organised jointly by the consulate and community organisations,” he said.“It will be a unified theme.”
For the first time, Emiratis who have supported the Pakistani community will also be honoured alongside top performing students from Pakistani schools.
The events will include stage plays as well as sports events. “I hope all segments of the Pakistani society will take part and enjoy the events that we have arranged for them,” added Hassan.
Stage and TV personality Sharafat Ali Shah said that among the events will be a theatre play being organised especially for Pakistani labourers. “We have performed this play earlier as well with Dubaibased artistes and will again perform for the community as well as the labour class,” he said.
The play titled ‘Breaking News’ will also be held for schoolchildren.
Representatives from Pakistan Association Dubai and Sharjah Social Centre said that events such as ‘desi’ (local) sports that have been forgotten by many people will also be held for revival.
Other events include mushairah that will be attended by top poets from Pakistan including Anwar Maqsood.
“The basic theme is to unite all four provinces in these celebrations,” said Samar Javed, deputy consul general to the UAE.
The association has also set up a Pakistan Movement Exhibition at its premises.
Pakistan Day is a public holiday in Pakistan to mark the Lahore Resolution on March 23 each year. The people of Pakistan celebrate the day with great interest to mark the success of the Muslims of South Asia who passed the historic Pakistan Resolution on this day at Lahore in 1940.
