G-B players set sights on next PSL

lahore — Gilgit-Baltistan has received a big boost after the Pakistan Cricket Board expressed its willingnes­s to build a world-class cricket stadium in the region.

After two successful seasons of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Gilgit-Baltistan is looking to enter the fray next year and hope the PCB promise materialis­es soon.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its willingnes­s to establish a stadium in Skardu,” Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman said on Saturday during a briefing arranged by deputy commission­er of Skardu over ongoing developmen­t projects in the district. The stadium would help train players from the area for national and internatio­nal events.

So also, Team Gilgit-Baltistan will look to participat­e in the next Pakistan Super League, the chief minister added.

While polo is the top sport of G-B, with volleyball and football also having good support, youngsters in the region can excel in any sport, Rehman said.

Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan governor Ghazanfar Ali Khan welcomed the decision of holding PSL final in Lahore, saying that best decision had been taken according to wishes of the nation after meeting Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday.

The government had won the hearts of the cricket-lovers by deciding to hold final match in Lahore, according to the GilgitBalt­istan governor. He said that Punjab government had invited students of Azad Kashmir and other provinces, including GB, to watch the match. He said it would promote the message of national unity. “The match is a national event and the Punjab government has strengthen­ed national unity by inviting students from other provinces,” a statement quoted the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as saying . — Agencies
