dubai — A worker was charged with murder for throwing his roommate off a window following an alcohol-fueled verbal brawl. The Court of First Instance was told on Sunday that the two men, both Indians, were consuming alcohol when they had a fight.

The 30-year-old claimed the victim insulted his mother and sisters which made him angry. He pulled the victim and threw him from a window in the room. He peeped down and saw his friend injured on the ground below, but instead of calling for help he went to sleep.

It was revealed that the victim did not put up any fight when he was dragged towards the window because he was drunk. The accused was also under the influence of alcohol but he was aware of what he was doing then.

According to court documents, the defendant had not planned to kill the victim in advance. He is not believed to have lured the victim to the room to attack him while the latter was defenseless.

The case dates back to November 11, 2016, and was reported in Jebel Ali.

“We were alerted to an incident of a fatal fall from a window at a labour accommodation in Jebel Ali. Workers there told us that the two men were drinking alcohol when they suddenly started to fight,” a police officer said.

“There was no witness to what exactly happened there. As per the account of the accused, he claimed the victim asked him to bring him a glass of water and then started to slap him and verbally abuse his mother and sisters. This provoked the accused, who grabbed the victim by his hand, pulled him towards an open window and pushed him down.”

During the investigation, the defendant admitted to charges of murder and consuming alcohol.

The cause of death was a serious head injury, bone fractures and brain hemorrhage. The victim was heavily intoxicated at the time of his death.

The position of the victim’s body suggested a foul play rather than an accident.

As many as 57 photos taken from the crime scene were enclosed in the case file. The trial will continue on March 21.
