Tourist couple forgets baby in cab at Dubai airport

- Afkar Abdullah

dubai — A tourist couple, who were on their trip back to their home country after a Dubai visit, forgot their infant in the taxi they took to the airport, an official at the Dubai Police has said.

The official at the tourist police department said the couple from a GCC country got off from the taxi at the Dubai International Airport, leaving their sleeping eight-monthold baby on the back seat. However, once they entered the airport, they realised that they had left the baby in the taxi. They looked for the taxi outside the airport, but it was already gone.

The couple informed the policemen at the airport, who contacted the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to find out the driver.

The father of the baby told the police that he didn’t look to the back seat while getting down at the airport as he thought the child was on the mother’s lap. He said the taxi picked them up from Al Riqqa Street.

Based on the information provided by the father about the place and time of picking up, the police and the RTA managed to trace the taxi through the GPS.

They contacted the driver, who was taking a break and having tea in a cafeteria. The driver rushed to the car and found the baby sleeping on the back seat of the car. He immediately drove to the airport and handed the baby over to its parents through the police.

The couple finally returned to their country on time, thanks to the immediate intervention of the authorities.

The official warned the public to be more careful while travelling in public transport and ensure that they haven’t left anything behind while getting off the vehicle.
