Army inducts China-built air defence system to its arsenal

rawalpindi — Pakistan Army has inducted a low to medium altitude air defence system (LOMADS) — LY 80 — in its air defence system.

Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa was chief guest at the Induction Ceremony held at army auditorium here on Sunday, the InterServi­ces Public Relations said.

LY-80 is a Chinese mobile air defence system, capable of tracking and destroying a variety of aerial targets at longer ranges, flying at low and medium altitude.

The Army Chief said that LY-80 LOMADS increases response capability to current and emerging air defence threats.

Earlier, on arrival, the army chief was received by Lt-Gen Mohammed Zahid Latif Mirza, Commander Army Air Defence Command.

Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday visited the headquarte­rs of Special Security Division (SSD) responsibl­e for the security of Chinese nationals working on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and non-CPEC projects.

The army chief was given a detailed briefing on integrated security mechanism led by the SSD, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief said that security forces were “fully prepared” to meet all security challenges to projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Chinese nationals living in the country.

He emphasised upon the value Pakistan attaches to the Chinese help and assistance extended in making this projects a success.

Gen Bajwa said that the army was fully aware of hostile agenda against the CPEC and security forces were all prepared to defeat such designs. He appreciate­d the Special Security Division for their state of preparedne­ss and arrangemen­ts for the execution of the assigned mission and tasks.

Earlier on his arrival, Gen Bajwa was received by General Officer Commanding SSD Major-General Abid Rafique. — APP
