sharjah — Residents in the UAE have reacted strongly about a sickening video that went viral on social media showing a live cat being fed to dogs.

The shocking video, which appears to have been shot somewhere in the UAE, has seen thousands of people react in anger, with many calling for the perpetrator to face justice.

After Khaleej Times posted a clip of the video online in a bid to track down the man in question — whose face cannot be seen in the shot —

Inflicting injury or malicious killing of animals is unacceptable & anyone in violation of Federal Law No 18, 2016 will be held accountable.” — Dr Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment

one Facebook user posted: “Legal action needs to be taken ASAP. He better not get away with this! I want to see him in

jail.” And many were on her side.

“How could people even do that? (It) says a lot about someone’s character and heart. (They) should face prosecution for this. Sad to watch,” another user said. “Very cruel. Some action must be taken against this man,” a third posted.

Additionally, Dr Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, took to Twitter to express his disgust at the viral video. “Inflicting injury or malicious killing of animals is unacceptable & anyone in violation of Federal Law No18, 2016 will be held accountable,” he tweeted. “These individual acts do not comply with the teachings of #Islam nor with the customs & values of the #UAE.”

He made reference to an earlier case too, where the ministry, along with the police, identified another suspect involved in torturing a cat last year. He also expressed his intent on bringing this latest perpetrator to justice.

“We shall coordinate with the bodies concerned to track down the person involved in this (practice), and enforce the due procedures.”

In the video, the man is overheard saying that he is throwing the cat to the dogs as punishment for killing his chickens.

Taking to social media to catch the man who used an online platform to showcase the disturbing act, one user urged those who have more details of the case to contact “8003050 MOCCAE, your local police or Middle East Animal Foundation”.

“This is wrong in so many levels and the government should look into such matters,” he added. reporters@khaleejtimes.com
