Cloudy weekend in the UAE

- Staff Reporter

dubai — The UAE may have gotten a respite from the recent rains, but the weather will remain a little bleak over the weekend with clouds covering the usual blue skies.

Speaking to Khaleej Times on Friday, a National Center of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS) spokesperson said most parts of the country — especially the coastal and Northern areas — will continue to be partly cloudy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thankfully for some weekend well-wishers, it is forecast to be a dry one too, with the spokesperson predicting only a slight chance of rain in some areas.

“We may witness light rainfall in the coastal areas and northern areas but there is only a small chance of this happening,” he said. Moderate winds are also expected to sweep the country, but general wind speeds will not exceed 40kmph, he said,

therefore daily routines should not be affected too much.

“The general wind speeds across the country will range from 20kmph to 35kmph. But in the northern areas it will reach a maximum of 40kmph.”

Looking at the coastal areas, the spokesperson said the Arabian Sea will remain moderate for the most part, but could get rough at times. And in the Oman Sea, slight to moderate waves will be likely. Across the country, temperatures are expected to reach a low of 12 degrees Celsius (in Ras Al Khaimah) and high of 34 degrees Celsius (in Al Ain).

Tourist, residents react

For British tourist Lynda E, her debut trip to Dubai has been fun,

but a “bit disappointing” on the weather front.

“I packed only light, summer clothes but when we landed here, I couldn’t believe the amount of clouds in the skies,” she told Khaleej Times. And in one picture she shared from her vacation, it showed her laying by the pool in a sun lounger, with a towel wrapped around her to keep her warm. “The weather has been a bit rubbish but we’ve had a great time all the same.”

But for resident Maryam F, it was a case of staying indoors to avoid the wind. “We are staying at home because of the bad windy weather,” she said.
