ABU DHABI — Pink Caravan Ride saw scores of volunteers join hands to spread the word about breast cancer across all the seven emirates. The participation through volunteering has exceeded all previous counts, the event organisers said.

Among the many volunteers is Abdullah Al Khawaldeh, who is associated with the awareness initiative for the third year.

“This is great fun. This edition is a success and all went smoothly.”

“I have a friend who is with the Friends of Cancer Patients, which manages this awareness drive. Through him I got attached to this campaign and now this is my third year,” said Abdullah, who has just finished his studies at the Emirates Aviation University.

Abdullah said the 11-day pan-UAE initiative is a great medium to spread awareness and he has got many of his friends to join forces.

“We must be more than 200 volunteers and growing. We share responsibilities. Our prime duty is to make the roads safer for the riders and horses to move. We also give flags with Pink Caravan logo to the general public. It’s great sight to see them wave flags and spread the message of breast cancer awareness.”

The public, he said, loved such initiatives. “Such campaigns are important because anyone can be a patient.” And Abdullah hopes more volunteers will join him next year.
