Nurse steals valuables, caught with talismans

-

dubai — A nurse faced trial in the Court of First Instance on the charges of stealing valuables from her sponsor’s home and was also accused of breach of trust.

The 26-year-old Sudanese nurse has been accused of stealing an expensive watch and a laptop, while her Emirati sponsor was out of the country.

The sponsor’s son, a 33-yearold soldier, said they hired the nurse to take care of his ailing father in June 2016.

“When my father left the country for treatment, we wanted to take her temporarily to stay at my brother’s house until he returned.

“She refused at first but since we insisted, she said she would leave her bags in our house. But she decided suddenly to travel back to her country,” he tsaid.

“When my sister and sister-inlaw searched her bags they found a watch and a laptop that belonged to my father in addition to Dh6,000. We then reported her to the police.” The complaint was registered on October 10, last year, at Bur Dubai police station.

The 81-year-old sponsor said he did not gift her the laptop but gave it to her to use. “I don’t recall gifting her a watch. I had only asked to give her a bank card for fuel purchases.” Paper clippings thought to be talismans bearing symbols, names and numbers were also seized from the woman.
