“Back in 1984, when we started our first grocery store in Dubai, we suffered a huge loss in the very first year. Somehow we recovered from it, but the cash erosion made us adopt a frugal lifestyle. Once, my father and I were passing through a crowded street in Meena Bazaar. Suddenly my father pointed to a location and exclaimed: ‘Look Jay! This site is ideal for a super store. I wish I had it.’ I almost burst into laughter and replied, ‘Father! Forget it. We are in a complete loss. The dream is good, but not a practical one. We can’t afford a space here.’ My father calmly reacted, ‘My son! Profit and loss are part of business. Time never remains constant. It is mere determination that leads us on the path to success. Be optimistic. Not failure, but low aim is the crime. Tomorrow, when our new store in Meena Bazaar will be inaugurated, I will feel satisfied to have my father’s dream fulfilled. I have been waiting for this moment for the last 33 years. I have established this store on the same site that my father pointed out. Besides, I have transferred the licence of our first store in Dubai to this new one. It is my sincere tribute to my late father.”
