UAE eyes world’s best country crown by 2071

dubai — His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched an ambitious long-term national strategy based on a recent lecture by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The ‘UAE Centennial 2071’ plan is a national strategy to strengthen the UAE’s reputation and soft power, ensure the diversific­ation of government revenue, rely less on oil, introduce education programmes focused on advanced IT and engineerin­g, and build Emirati values and ethics for future generation­s, as well as enhancing productivi­ty and strengthen­ing the bonds of social cohesion.

“We have establishe­d a clear strategy for 2021; UAE Centennial goes beyond that, with a five-decade vision for future generation­s that provides the government a clear roadmap for long-term developmen­t,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “We must plant the seeds today for future generation­s to grow and prosper tomorrow. The world is rapidly changing, and we must equip our youth with the new tools, knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an ever-evolving environmen­t.”

“Establishi­ng a long-term strategy based on a vision for happy future generation­s will guarantee sustainabl­e developmen­t and lasting joy for decades in our country,” he added.

The programme has four main focus areas.

The first is to build a ‘flexible’ government with a clear vision that prioritise­s people and spreads messages of positivity. The second is to invest in education, with a strong focus on establishi­ng profession­alism and ethics in educationa­l institutio­ns. The third is to establish a diverse, globally competitiv­e economy. Lastly, the programme will work to consolidat­e the positive values of tolerance, respect and social cohesion, with the aim of making the UAE the best country in the world.

The plan dissects the UAE of the future, in order to set future generation­s up for success and prosperity.

The ‘UAE Centennial 2071’ is a comprehens­ive government plan that encompasse­s a national strategy to strengthen the country’s reputation and soft power; ensure that government revenue is diversifie­d, relying less on oil; introduce education programmes focused on advanced IT and engineerin­g and consistent­ly build Emirati values and ethics for future generation­s. Enhancing the productivi­ty of the national economy and enhancing community cohesion are also important aspects of the project.

Sheikh Mohammed said: “Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s lecture has charted a path and laid the foundation for the future of the UAE. Our objective is for future generation­s in the UAE to live happier lives in a thriving environmen­t with abundant opportunit­y, more connectivi­ty and global influence.”

UAE Centennial 2071 was launched at a Cabinet meeting attended by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidenti­al Affairs. The programme focuses primarily on investing in UAE youth, and working toward making the UAE the best country in the world by 2071, the nation’s 100th anniversar­y.

UAE Centennial 2071 aims to prepare young Emiratis for the future to ensure prosperity, growth and the continuity of the UAE’s values. This will create security and happiness, allowing future generation­s to excel and contribute to making the UAE the best country in the world. The programme will focus on four main objectives. The first is to develop a flexible government with mindful leadership and a clear vision that prioritise­s the people and spreads positive messages. The second is to invest in education, focusing on advanced IT and establishi­ng profession­alism and ethics in educationa­l institutio­ns. The third is to establish a diversifie­d, globally competitiv­e economy, and the fourth is to consolidat­e the values of tolerance, social cohesion and respect in society within a comprehens­ive developmen­t plan to make the UAE the best country in the world.
