abu dhabi — The Federal Appeals Court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison on Wednesday for passing sensitive military and security information to the intelligence agents of a foreign country.

The court ordered the convict — Sh. S. M., an Asian who passed the details of a critical facility in Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi — to pay the entire expense of the trial.

The convict will be deported after completing the jail term. The court also ordered the confiscation of all devices used in the crime.

Two other Asians were cleared from a charge of taking photographs in restricted areas.

In another case, an Emirati identified as Kh. S. A, 19, confessed to joining Daesh, travelling to Syria, receiving training, and fighting in the ranks of the terrorist organisation. The court adjourned the case to April 26 in response to a request from the defence team to consider the case. The public prosecution also charged two Emiratis H.A. Sh, 37; and A.A.Y, 24; with seeking to join Daesh, communicating with elements of the terrorist organisation, and buying air tickets to travel to Syria to join the organisation.

After the defendants denied the charges, the court adjourned the case to April 26 upon a request from the defence.

Meanwhile, the court heard the pleadings of defence lawyers in the case of Iranian S.M.A., who was charged with supplying equipment to Iran for its nuclear programme, and decided to issue the verdict on April 26.
