The 4km-long corniche has already undergone two phases of development work, according to a senior official with the department of public works and services in the emirate.

Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, director-general of the department, said the project will be carried out in collaboration with the tourism and hospitality authorities.

the scenic views, fresh air, sea and landscape.”

Elaborating, Al Hammadi said the pathway will be entirely renovated. “More green areas will be added, the lightning system and facilities will be developed, and new facilities for children will be installed.”

All the seats along the corniche will be replaced as well to meet the pressing demand from the public, he pointed out. “We have already decided on the designs of the new seats.”

In January this year, the department had opened the 470m-long walkway on the corniche.

Meanwhile, Al Hammadi said they have denied access to all vehicles to the Old Corniche Beach. “The move was implemented after reports about a number of dangerous drifting stunts performed by the youth that posed a grave risk to beach-goers.”

The department is planning to use the area to make parking spaces, he disclosed. “Iron barriers will be installed around the Old Corniche Beach to prevent any drivers from entering the open area.”
