Young stunt drivers held in Capital, RAK
ras al khaimah/abu dhabi — In two separate incidents, two youths who performed stunt driving in front of schools were arrested in Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi.
In Ras Al Khaimah, a 17-yearold boy, who was driving a car recklessly, performed dangerous stunts in front of a school, said MajorGeneral Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police.
During the stunt, the boy lost control over the car and crashed into two other vehicles parked there, the police chief said, adding that he fled the scene after the accident.
The central operations room, alerted of the mishap, immediately dispatched traffic patrols to the site, and managed to track down and arrest the driver in just one hour, Maj-Gen Nuaimi stated.
“The drivers of the other two cars, who received minor injuries, were shifted to the nearest hospital. They were discharged later.”
The four-wheel drive car was impounded and the boy, who didn’t have a licence, was referred to the RAK Traffic Prosecution.
In Abu Dhabi, a 19-year-old man was arrested after a video of him performing stunts in front of a school in Al Shamkha went viral. The driver, who was driving recklessly on wet grounds also hit a pedestrian in front of a school in Al Shamkha.
The police said he was driving an unregistered vehicle during Tuesday’s wet weather conditions, and was swerving recklessly before he lost control of his car. The vehicle hit a pavement and injured a pedestrian, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohsen Al Mansouri, Head of Traffic Investigation at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Department, adding that the driver was arrested later.
“The drivers who are involved in any accident should not leave the accident site before the police’s arrival. Those who do that will face hefty fines, vehicle impoundment, driving licence suspension and even detention,” warned MajorGeneral Al Nuaimi.
He said the RAK police have launched an extensive campaign to stop reckless drivers, mainly those unlicensed for driving. “Those are mostly callous young people.”
Lieutenant Colonel Al Mansouri warned youngsters against performing dangerous stunts and urged parents to speak to their children about the dangers of stunt driving.
