abu dhabi — A new national strategy has been approved to protect the rights of children with disabilities and ensure they live long, healthy lives and enjoy positive lifestyles.
The strategic plan for the rights of children with disabilities 20172021, which was approved by the UAE Cabinet on Sunday, is in line with the goals of UAE Vision 2021, in that it seeks to promote an optimal education and intergrated lifestyle for children with disabilities.
“People with disabilities represent an integral component of the UAE’s society and have the right to enjoy a happy and dignified life like other community groups,” said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VicePresident and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “The UAE attaches special importance to supporting children with disabilities and enabling them to play a constructive and effective role in the development and the achievement of the UAE’s national agenda and vision for 2021.”
In line with the government’s efforts to promote and protect the rights of mothers and children, the UAE Cabinet also approved the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood 2017-2021.
dubai — The massive rain and turbulent weather resulted in clogged streets and cancelled events over the weekend, but the Dubai Municipality teams swung into action to clean the streets.
Talib Julfar, assistant directorgeneral of Dubai Municipality for environment and public health services, and team leader of Ghaith Dubai — which supervises storm water — said more than 3,000 people, including labourers, inspectors, technicians and other officials, were pressed into service around the clock.
He said the Dubai horse race arena was also cleaned to facilitate the prestigious Dubai World Cup. “All these streets were cleaned of accumulated water, and the sand, debris and residues washed away with rain have also been removed from the roads.”
A total of 50 tankers belonging to the municipality and 60 others belonging to contractors were used in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority.
“The labourers, technicians and other team members deployed in the affected areas throughout the emirate worked with a competitive spirit,” he said. “With regard to cleaning the manholes, Dubai has a sandy environment, so you need to make more effort and this is part of the responsibility of Dubai Municipality during the rain.”
