sharjah — The Sharjah Police are investigating the death of a 3-yearold Saudi girl who fell from the window of her family’s 11th floor apartment in a building lcoated in Jamal Abdul Nasser area, near Al Buhairah police station.

The toddler, identified as Ghadeer Y. S., died in the spot after falling from the high-rise, police said.

A police official said that the girl climbed the window while her mother busy in the kitchen, and her father was not at home.

The department said they got a call around 12 pm about the incident; the police, patrol, forensic experts and an ambulance rushed to the site and found the girl already dead. The body has been taken to the forensic laboratory for autopsy.

The Al Buhairah police have taken her parents into custody for interrogation, to determine whether the child’s fall was due to negligence or other reasons.

This is the second case this year resulting in death after falling from a highrise — in February, a 21-month-old Arab child fell from the third floor of a building in Al Taawun area. The official added that the police have launched an intensified awareness campaign to educate parents about the dangers of leaving children unattended and unsecured windows, which could lead to their death and serious injuries.

He urged parents to ensure the safety of their children at home and not to depend on maids, lock the doors of balconies, secure windows and remove any item or surface near windows and balconies that could be used by children to climb over.
