abu dhabi — Two young men stood trial at the Al Ain Criminal Court, accused of causing the death of a 19-year-old man who died of drug overdose.

The deceased became an addict due to peer pressure and was found dead in the neighbourhood of his home, the court was told.

The Arab men in their early 20s had allegedly lured their friend into consuming drugs after convincing him that the drugs would make him feel better and do the impossible things. The defendants also told the victim that he would become strong and powerful and would be able to challenge anyone in bodybuilding and weight lifting if he used drugs.

Court documents stated that the victim consumed a lot of drugs including heroin and hashish with his friends, which caused his death. The accused then put the victim’s body in his car and parked it in front of a mosque located near his home in Al Ain late in the night and fled the scene. Residents learned about the teen’s death after one of them checked his car the following day and found his body.

The police arrived at the scene and took away the body for autopsy. A forensic report said he died of drug overdose. After investigation, the police arrested the two men with whom the teen always spent time, especially during the evenings. The accused admitted to consuming drugs with the teen during the evening. They told the police that they were surprised when their friend fell unconscious and died after consuming drugs.

Prosecutors charged the pair with consuming drugs and causing death of their friend as they provided him drugs. In the court the accused admitted to consuming drugs but denied causing death of the victim. The trial has been adjourned to a future date.
