Six reckless drivers to clean streets
Six men have been ordered to perform community service of cleaning up the streets, mosques and public libraries for violating traffic laws.
The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution on Monday handed down the community service to the five Emiratis and one GCC national after a court convicted them of various traffic offences including performing road stunts, reckless driving and racing on the roads.
Three of the men, who were charged with performing road stunts — one of them near a children’s playground — were ordered to do the community work for three months; while the other three men who were charged with driving recklessly and racing on the roads, will each do the community service for one month.
Two of the men in the first case will clean and maintain mosques, while the third man will organise and clean public libraries. The other three men in the second case have been ordered to clean the streets and to maintain public squares.
The Public Prosecutors noted that the community service work assigned to the convicts is aimed at benefiting the public in addition to reforming the violators.
The public prosecution also ordered for the immediate start of the community service punishments and requested for monthly reports on the performance of the convicted Emiratis.
