umm al quwain — A total of 120 indigent local government employees in Umm Al Quwain performed the Umrah for free, thanks to the Low-Income Families Committee of the Dar Al Ber Society.

The religious trip has been organised in collaboration with the UAQ Council for Youth and Cooperation and 13 other government entities, said Ali Hassan Al Asi, chairman of the Low-income Families Committee, UAQ. “The free Umrah trip is one of 12 others that have been run by the Dar Al Ber Society under its pioneering ‘Lifetime Umrah’ programme that was launched across the country in 2014,” Al Asi said.

However, the trip is the second to be run by the Low-income Families Committee, he added. “We had earlier organised another Umrah trip for 95 staffers of the Sharjah Community Services Department.”

The committee had held an introductory presentation on the due Umrah rituals and itinerary of the trip, to help inform the participants who were accompanied by staff reps and scholars for help.

“Official records show that the Low-income Families Committee in Umm Al Quwain has so far helped more than 200 people perform Umrah against a total value of Dh577,000.”

Al Asi noted that the kind gesture will boost the participants’ religious values and bring them happiness. “The scheme is part of Dar Al Ber efforts to chip in the ‘Year of Giving’ drive initiated by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”
