UNB pledges Dh30M to Nation’s Fund
ABU DHABI — Union National Bank (UNB) has pledged Dh30 million to Sandooq Al Watan (Nation’s Fund), Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and UNB Chairman, has announced. The move is in response to the declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Nahyan said: “The Year of Giving initiative, which is being closely nurtured by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, reflects the benevolent spirit of the UAE leaders, who spare no effort in enabling the UAE citizens to lead a prosperous life. The leaders are keen to engage all segments of society in the nation-building process and to ensure that all successive generations cherish our noble traditional values.”
He urged all corporate entities and individuals to demonstrate their support for the objectives of the Year of Giving.
Lt.-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chairman, police and public security in Dubai, lauded UNB’s support, describing it as an “embodiment of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community”.
“UNB is one of the leading financial enterprises in the UAE and has been instrumental in the development of the national workforce, empowering them to take initiatives in the financial domain,” he said. “On behalf of Sandooq Al Watan, we express our deepest gratitude to Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak for his generous support, which will ultimately help us build a better future for our coming generations. This contribution reflects the commitment of public and private institutions to supporting the vision of the UAE’s wise leaders, who have urged us to invest in people to guarantee progress and prosperity for our nation.”
The donation was announced at a meeting held at the bank’s head office in Abu Dhabi, between UNB’s board of directors headed by Sheikh Nahyan and the board of directors of Sandooq Al Watan, headed by Lt.-General Tamim.
The bank’s gesture was part of its social responsibilities and in recognition of the role of Sandooq Al Watan in embedding the values of contribution to national agendas.
