- Ahmed Shaaban

dubai — Fatwa sessions are now available in all the mosques in Dubai. The move is meant to make the service more accessible to the public, said an eminent Islamic scholar.

Grand Mufti of Dubai Dr Ahmed Al Haddad on Monday said that the move is in line with the successful fatwa sessions held in the mosques of Dubai last year. “The planned fatwa sessions will help spread the authentic teachings of Islam in an easy to understand way, considering all segments of the society,” he said.

The ‘fatwa chairs’ or counters, kind of public sessions, will be held across all the mosques in Dubai in pursuance of the prophetic tradition, Dr Al Haddad elaborated.

“Official records show 587 fatwa sessions were held in Dubai mosques during the first quarter of the year whereas the staff Muftis of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities managed to deliver 5,505 fatwas over the same period.”

Dr Al Haddad said the department, all set to meet the needs of the public, had further held special fatwa sessions for women. “These were meant to address all women issues,” he said.

“Two competent staff female Muftis, Bushra Al Hasmi and Hessa Khalfan, were responsible for these weekly sessions at the Mariya Al Kiptiya centre in Al
