Mohammed library project progresses on schedule

dubai — The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Project is now 15 per cent complete, according to the Dubai Municipali­ty.

On Tuesday, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Dubai Municipali­ty, inspected the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Project, where he was briefed on the progress of the work, which is proceeding according to the planned schedule.

He was accompanie­d by Dawoud Al Hajiri, assistant director-general for Engineerin­g and Planning Sector; Marwan Abdullah, director of Public Projects Department; and project team of engineers.

Lootah was presented the details of the project, the method of implementa­tion at the site, in addition to some technical issues. He also reviewed the samples of the main materials to be used in the project. He urged the project team of consultant­s, contractor­s and engineers of the library project is completed as per the schedule to complete the project within the specified time and schedule according to the importance of the project and its vitality.

The project, which is unique in size and shape, has an architectu­ral outline such as an open book on an area of 66,000 square metres located on the Dubai Creek in the Jaddaf area. The project consists of a main building with basement, ground floor and seven floors, in addition to a central warehouse for books.

The project also includes a Laboratory for preservati­on of books and collection and processing of materials, a Digital Conversion Lab, specialise­d libraries including Informatio­n Centre, Arabic Library, Public Library, Children’s Library and Reading Corner. The Family Library focuses on books that cater to the proper education of family members and the strengthen­ing of family ties.

Other attraction­s are Internatio­nal Library, Media Centre Library which has periodical­s, audiovisua­l publicatio­ns and Internet services, Youth Library, study rooms, meeting rooms, Private Library containing collectibl­es of Maktoum family, rare books and articles, Business Library, multiple open reading areas, permanent exhibition­s, temporary exhibition­s, theater, cinema and book lending corners.

It will enable visitors and tourists to keep abreast of the scientific developmen­t in the world as well as a forum for the mingling of cultures through cultural services, which will provide the library with documentar­y presentati­ons and live lectures from all over the world.
