dubai — A newly-married Indian woman committed suicide after a dispute with her husband in Dubai on Thursday. The husband also tried to kill himself when he came to know about the suicide.

According to the Dubai Police, they received information about the incident in the Sheikh Rashid Building in Al Qusais on Thursday at 4.30pm and rushed to the site. The woman, identified as 27-year-old K.K., committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in a bedroom of their two-bedroom apartment using a piece of cloth, the police said, adding that her husband, S.K., who cut his veins, was saved.

A police official quoted the husband as saying that the couple from Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala had an argument around 1.45pm. After that, the wife locked herself in the bedroom and refused to open the door when he asked her to. He left a note reading “I will go for ever and will never be back to your life” at home and went out.

When he returned home after some time, the door was still locked. He forcefully opened the door and saw his wife hanging from the fan, S.K. told the police. He brought down the body after cutting the cloth and tried to save her, but in vain. Feeling heartbroken, the man took a knife from the kitchen and cut the veins of both the hands, sources said.

By that time, the police reached the site and rushed the man to a hospital. Police sources said the man’s condition is stable. Both the husband and wife worked as nurses and got married three months ago. Residents in the building said they moved to the flat just a month ago.

The building watchman said he came to know about the incident only when the police came. “Now, the flat is locked by the police and investigation is going on,” he said.
