360 vehicles seized for traffic violations at Global Village

dubai — The five-month long Global Village festivitie­s had seen the confiscati­on of 360 vehicles and 3,090 traffic violations, according to the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police.

Brigadier Saif Mohair Al Mazroui, director-general of traffic department at Dubai Police, said that the tickets were issued to drivers who did not abide by traffic laws, including driving with expired licences and using unsafe vehicles on roads.

The festival season was also not free from accidents. Brig. Al Mazroui added that 192 minor accidents happened during the shopping extravagan­za, which began on November 1, 2016 and ended on April 8, 2017.

He said that Dubai Traffic Police had exercised commendabl­e efforts during the global village events. These included organising the traffic in the internal and external streets, as well as diverting traffic from one street to another when necessary,

He added that the Dubai Traffic Department had introduced necessary traffic plans to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the streets leading to the global village. Besides, patrols were deployed in high ways leading to the Global Village including Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street and Emirates Road.

Brigadier Al Mazroui praised the Global Village management for its full cooperatio­n with the General Department of Traffic to ensure smooth flow of traffic and facilitate public access to and from the Global Village during its 21st edition.
