Council calls to implement ‘giving initiative­s’ in schools

sharjah — In a bid to reinforce its message of goodwill and support to all young people, members of the Sharjah Children Shura Council (SCSC) have called for the implementa­tion of national ‘giving initiative­s’ in schools across the country, engaging children in the UAE’s projects around the world as ambassador­s for good. SCSC members posed questions to the session’s guests, focusing mainly on their strategic institutio­nal plans, their effectiven­ess and ability to serve the country and the various members of society, particular­ly children.

The recommenda­tions of 68 young parliament members were announced during the inaugural session of the 15th edition of the council on Wednesday, at the Consultati­ve Council of Sharjah, attended by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahma­n Al Qasimi, in keeping with the UAE’s ‘Year of Giving 2017’, declared by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The 2017-2018 edition, organised by the Sharjah Children Centres (SCC) under the theme ‘Working together for a better nation,’ is being held under the patronage of the wife of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, chairperso­n of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, chairperso­n of the ‘Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators and wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.

Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-inchief of Sharjah Police, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Developmen­t Authority (Shurooq), Yusra Abdul Ghaffar Baqi, goodwill ambassador at the UN, and head of Happiness and Corporate Social Responsibi­lity at Aafaq Islamic Finance, and Aysha Ali Al Kaabi, acting director of SCC, in addition to 68 members of SCSC and a number of local media representa­tives.

The session was presided over by Rashid Saif Khalifa Al Tunaiji, with the participat­ion of the first vice-president, Maria Ahmed Al Naqbi, the second vice-president, Al Hoor Mohammed Al Hooti, and the SCSC Secretary, Fatima Faraj Al Amiri.

Council members presented a number of recommenda­tions from the session including implementi­ng national ‘giving initiative­s’ in schools across the country, and the need for cooperatio­n with Sharjah Police and relevant authoritie­s in activating awareness programmes to protect children from the potential dangers of using smart devices.

Aysha Ali Al Kaabi, acting director of SCC, said: “We have learned from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah that the nation’s developmen­t starts with its children and youth. This is why so much effort and support is invested into building their skills and abilities, which play such a ma- jor role in designing our future.”
