Empost ex-employee accused of embezzling Dh493,329

dubai — An ex-employee at Empost is on trial in absentia at the Court of First Instance on the charge of embezzling more than Dh493,000 from his workplace by abusing his job as a revenue collector.

The Egyptian former employee’s alleged wrongdoing­s date back to January 2014. He is still at large.

Prosecutor­s have accused him of embezzling public finds (in his capacity as a public employee), forgery and use of forged e-documents.

records, the accused had the privilege of access into the e-system. He falsified the e-receipts by claiming he put the revenues on records. He issued other receipts with the same serial numbers to cover up his embezzleme­nts of the money. He allegedly forged 52 e-receipts. A criminal complaint was filed against him at Al Rashidiyah police station. A security department director said: “The defendant had been working for Empost Dubai since August 2007. His duties were to collect fees from customers and then deposit them in the Emirates Post treasury.

However, the accused abused his job to embezzle large amounts from those revenues. He embezzled Dh493,329 in total after collecting the money in cash and issuing bogus e-receipts, the director told the prosecutor.

The former collector carried the embezzleme­nts on different occasions starting from January 2014 to May 2015. He would sometimes do his regular job in due course in order not to draw attention or get exposed.—
