dubai — A salesman, who tampered a parking card to extend its validity, has been granted suspension on the execution of his 3-month jail term for three years.

The Court of First Instance has charged the 35-year-old Indian salesman with forgery for changing the validity date of his parking card with a black pen from 2015 to 2016.

He put the forged paper on the front of his car to make the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inspector believe that he had a valid parking permit and that he had settled the fees.

He pleaded not guilty earlier to charges of forgery and use of forged document in court. The case dates back to September 24, 2016, in Al Barsha.

“I was going about my regular duties of inspecting cars parked in the paid parking zone. I checked one particular car and found the card on its windshield to be issued

It raised my suspicions as the parking cards’ validity would not exceed one year.” Witness account

in 2014 and valid till 2016. It raised my suspicions as such cards’ validity would not exceed one year. I called my supervisor and learnt from him that the present card had expired in 2015,” an RTA inspector told the prosecutor.

The inspector then issued a parking ticket to the car owner and also reported him to the police for forgery.

When the police arrived they called after the accused. The latter tried to evade their questions. “He looked agitated as he took the parking permit and tried to wipe away the validity year. But the policeman got it back and took him into custody,” the inspector added.

The police corporal, who interrogated the salesman about the forgery, said he confessed he forged the RTA parking card using a black pen and changing the validity year from 2015 to 2016 to extend its use.
