abu dhabi — A shepherd, who was caught hiding heroin in a sheep farm and distributing the drugs to customers, has been given life in prison. The Abu Dhabi Cassation Court upheld earlier sentences by lower courts, and handed down the sentence to the Asian man after he was found guilty of possessing and peddling heroin.

The official court documents stated that the Asian man, who worked at a sheep farm located on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi city, buried huge amounts of heroin capsules in the sand at the farm after they were smuggled into the UAE.

Prosecutors said the man would then dig out the heroin and sell it to people around the area where he stayed. He would lead customers to the place where he had hidden the drugs, and also get them out after they paid him cash, said officers.

The anti-narcotics department had set up teams to investigate and monitor the movements of the accused

after they received a tip off. The team later caught the man redhanded as he was trying to sell heroin capsules to some customers in exchange for money. After his arrest, the cops also found huge amount of heroin capsules hidden in the farm.

The man had admitted to possessing and dealing with drugs during interrogations saying he acted on instructions from dealers outside of the UAE.

The man said he was then remitting the cash to the dealers.

Both the First Instance Court and the Appeal Court gave the Asian man life imprisonment, but the man challenged the ruling to Abu Dhabi’s top court, which has maintained earlier sentences.
