dubai — The GCC Young Drivers Academy programme kicked off in the UAE on Monday after two extensive training days in Bahrain.

Promising young GCC drivers were selected and nominated by motorsport governing bodies in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

This initiative was a key point on the agenda of the inaugural meeting of GCC Motorsport Committee which took place in Bahrain earlier in March. “The GCC YDA is an important addition in the development of local talented stars. The focus in UAE will be on the rally racing training, after the circuit race training was conducted in Bahrain over the past two days,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the Automobile and Touring Club of UAE and president of Emirates Motor Sport Federation (EMSF).

Jointly organized by three global training providers of the Federation Internationale De L’Automobile (FIA), Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF), Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and the Automobile & Touring Club of UAE (ATCUAE), the GCC Young Driver Academy will be held between Bahrain and the UAE.

Each country nominates two drivers aged between 15 and 21, and the UAE has nominated Amna Al Qubaisi and Saeed Al Ali, who contest against each other and ten drivers nominated by other GCC motorsport governing bodies.

The circuit training part was conducted on Bahrain International Circuit on Sunday while day one of the programme was dedicated to physical fitness assessment and delivery of a number of race specific classroom training modules.
