Nursery kids donate kits to fire-affected workers
abu dhabi — Nursery kids from the Capital have stepped in to ease the pain of labourers who had lost everything in the fire that broke out last month at Al Reef labour accommodation. Oryx British Nursery has handed over as many as 200 kits through its shoebox appeal campaign. Along with around 60 kids at the nursery, their two branches in Sharjah also participated in the campaign.
Oryx British Nursery director Donna Rayson said the institute rallied the parents and students to help the labourers. “Oryx British Nursery is part of the Abu Dhabi community. When we found out about a fire at the labour accommodation we wanted to reach out to them,” Donna said.
Oryx British Nursery supervisor Hannah Brooker said the initiative forms part of the early years foundation stage British curriculum. “We have been learning about ‘People who help us’. So, when we came to know labourers have lost their personal belongings, we started the shoebox appeal and kids collected items such as food, clothes, toiletries, bed linen among others. We hope this will help replace the items they have lost.”
Youssef, a representative from the labour accommodation, thanked the nursery kids for the contributions.
“May God bless all at this nursery. We deeply appreciate the effort taken by all of them,” he said.
Oryx British Nursery administrator Marian Mettry said it’s great to see the nursery initiative being held in the Year of Giving. “Seven kids from our nursery went to the labour accommodation to pass on the shoe boxes to the affected people. I am glad our tiny tots could do their bit to ease workers pain.”
Oryx British Nursery, opened in 2015, is part of SEED Group and runs three age-group classes starting from age one.
