1 Tips from police

Avoid withdrawin­g huge amounts of cash and carry it alone; don’t accept help from strangers while using an ATM; don’t leave the bank premises soon after withdrawin­g cash; residents should inform police if they notice anyone suspicious near banks; avoid fighting with thieves during robbery attempt.

2 A quick plan

A joint team from crime prevention and criminal investigat­ion department at Dubai Police has set up a quick plan which help them analyse suspects’ criminal behaviour and study the methods they use to carry out their crimes. Also, the police developed a sophistica­ted cameras to monitor the suspects.

3 Awareness

Dubai Police have intensifie­d awareness campaigns to educate banking clients on ways to protect their money and on following precaution­ary measures. They have deployed police patrols near banks areas and arrested large number of gang members of various nationalit­ies who involved in such robberies.

4 ‘Be cautious’

The Sharjah campaign launched in the beginning of the year, urges clients not to leave cash in the car and also to keep an eye on suspicious movements. The police have arrested nearly 100 suspects during the first quarter of 2017. Meanwhile, crimes rate has been reduced by 7.24 per cent in the same period.

5 Innovative ways

Thieves always invent new ways to rob bank customers. Some distract the victim, snatch and flee with the cash. Some others spit on the face in order to make away with the cash bags. Some pretend to be sick and while the victim tries to help, another gang member steals the money in the car and flees.
