Fertility support group meeting to share experiences

- Staff Reporter

dubai — Couples facing fertility problems such as repeated IVF failures and recurrent miscarriages can now find hope, support and guidance through UAE’s first and only IVF and Fertility Support Group.

The group, founded by Cassie Destino, an American expat in the country and mother of twins, is progressively becoming a pillar of strength for many who are finding comfort and encouragement through discussions, guidance and advice on issues of infertility on the forum.

The group, in association with Bourn Hall Fertility Centre in Dubai, is organising their first support meet to help couples struggling with fertility challenges to come together and share their experiences or concerns. The event will be held from 4pm-6pm on Saturday at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre in Jumeirah.

“‘IVF and Fertility Support – UAE is our small endeavour to help people feel less isolated, empower them with knowledge while providing them with a support network of people going through similar experiences. I have myself faced challenges with fertility and fully understand how emotionally draining it can be to go through it without the support of family and friends. The UAE has a huge expat population and since so many of us are away from home, a group like ours can be a vital resource to turn to for comfort, encouragement and validate our emotional response to the life crisis of infertility,” said Cassie Destino.

“Battling IVF is not easy and there’s no one answer that fits all for couples. A lot of us end up losing time and money shuttling from one clinic to another, confused about which treatment to go for. A meeting like this will certainly help people choose the right course of action,” Destino added.

“We are happy to facilitate support group’s first session, it’s a muchneeded initiative by Cassie where people can share experiences, offer peer support and swap ideas and resources on how to help cope infertility. Moreover, we are delighted to assist its growing members by offering expert advice from our fertility specialists and fertility checks besides offering counseling and continuous education,” commented Hoda Abou Jamra, group CEO of Bourn Hall International, the holding company of Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, Dubai.

Members and non-members can join the meet-up and get educated on the latest advances in fertility treatments, UAE laws related to the subject and the latest protocols in genetic testing. Attendees will also understand the causes and treatment for repeated pregnancy loss and the reasons behind IVF failures. Free consultation and counselling will be provided to the attendees while they will be able to network and connect with people going through similar situation.
