Lamia wins gold at International Emirates Cup
dubai — Six-year-old Lamia Tariq Malallah from Dubai Youth Olympic School did the UAE proud as she won the gold medal at the First International Emirates Cup of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Al Habtoor City, here on Friday.
Competing in Category ‘C’ (born between 2011 to 2013), Lamia beat Scudella Angela (the UAE) and Merkuline Myroslava (Ukraine) to emerge on top. This is Lamia’s second gold medal in two consecutive international competitions. Lamia’s coach Ksenia Dzhalaganiya was happy with her success.
“We are truly very happy for Lamia. She has a great potential to sharpen her talent and continue on her journey to become a world-renowened athlete representing UAE through hard work, dedication and discipline. It makes us glad that our school’s hard work and the talent of our athletes has been recognized in yet another international event,” Dzhalaganiya said. With the attendance of 370 athletes from 25 countries, the event is largest to date ever held in the UAE and the GCC region for Ryhtmic Gymnastics.
Organized by Dubai Youth Olympic School of Ryhtmic Gymnastics, the event also is attended by 70 athletes from the UAE, supported and recognized by Dubai Sports Council and UAE General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare. The event is highlighted by the presence of 2016 Rio Olympics gold medallist Margarita Mamun, who is scheduled for a special gala performance followed by an exclusive master class over two days.
Commenting on the event, Dzhalaganiya, also the founder and the head coach of the Dubai Youth Olympic School of Rythmic Gymnastics and former World and European champion, said: “We are honoured to host the biggest rythmic gymnastics event in the UAE and grateful for the support of the authorities, our working partners and sponsors in making our dream come true.”
